2.For our sewing members I am introducing Little Dresses for Africa
Founded in America in 2008 by Rachel O’Neill is a registered non-profit Christian organization, it is now based in many countries including the UK. MISSION: To provide relief to vulnerable children throughout the Continent of Africa and beyond. HOW? Volunteers join together to make little dresses out of pillow cases or other simple patterns. WHY? To plant in the hearts of little girls that they are worthy. They also love to accept shorts for boys too!
LDfA say “PLEASE SIZE before sending: group small, mediums, large sizes. Feel free to add pockets or lace! All styles and patterns will be appreciated by the little girls. Avoid buttons and zippers!
We size them by length from the shoulder to the hem.
Small = 2, 3, and 4 (16-22 inches long)
Medium = 5, 6, and 7 (24-28 inches long)
Large = 8, 9, and 10 (30-34 inches long)
X-Large – size 11 and above (anything over 35 inches long)
Any size boy’s shorts are welcome. Elastic or drawstring waist works
well for boys shorts. The finished product is a beautiful delight to the
kids! Be sure to size your dresses before sending! Please! Include a
self-addressed, stamped envelope so we can notify you that your
dresses are received! Thank you so much for your help! Feel free
to use your own simple pattern.” http://www.littledressesforafrica.org/blog/
Address to follow, or send to me in a mixed box. Any pillow dress pattern can
be used, if you need one please send me a pm
3.Another knitting challenge – Leicester Hospitals Charity are asking for ADAPT triangles that help mother and baby to bond when they can't be close to each other.
These are like the bonding square but it is a special pattern. I have spoken to Sue Williams and have permission to share the pattern with Loving Hands members, follow the link or pm me for the pattern.
These can be sent direct (address to follow) or to me in a mixed box, or why not contact your local hospital and see if they would like some?
4.Crochet lap blankets for Care & Repair England is a small, national charitable organisation set up in 1986 to improve the homes and living conditions of older people. It believes that all older people should be able to live in a decent home of their own choosing. It strives to: Ensure that more older people can live independently and with dignity in their own homes for as long as they wish. Connect housing, health and social care in ways that improve older people’s whole quality of life. Work with older people to influence decisions about housing & the related services which affect their lives.
We have been making lap blankets for the Care and Repair local to the Stafford group, there are many branches throughout the UK.
To find your nearest branch Google Care and Repair and your location! Link to the main website http://careandrepair-england.org.uk/
And that is it for this quarter. No critters this time, but remember the need for dog and cat blankets is ongoing all year round, as well as making nests for the wildlife rescues
