So there you have it for another 3 months! Hope you are all happy with these suggestions and you will all have fun getting started on them. You can also find more details by visiting our Forum, under Charities in Need of Donations.
Hope and Aid Direct – A UK based charity with volunteers spread throughout the UK.
A few years back we did a lot of work with Bev and Charles Storer; to help them with aid that they transport overseas in convoys of lorries, using amazing volunteers who risk their own safety and give up huge chunks of their time, to get aid to where it is most needed. Please click here to go to their website.
They are seeking blankets, warm clothing and, for those of you who love to make them, Jean Greenhowe's big jolly clowns - click here for pattern.
The next convoy leaves on 9th October, 2015 so this will fit in well with our summer challenge dates. They have co-ordinators in different areas all over England and Wales, so will hopefully have one close enough to most groups down south or for members to drop off or have collected items they make and save on postage. Activity Aprons, Fiddle Mats, Marble Runs and Playbooks!
The third challenge, with our stitchers in mind, let your imagination run wild! Make fiddle mats, Activity Aprons, Fiddle Mats, Marble Runs, play books etc for the elderly, mentally handicapped and deaf/blind in your areas. If you contact local homes that care for dementia patients, and other organisations that deal with deaf/blind and mentally impaired, I am betting they will be delighted to have lovingly created items. I know that the girls who do them already get some lovely feedback for the ones they have been creating. Here is another link for Alzheimer's Activity Mat.
The Critter Challenge
Now what have we not had yet that would be fun to do and put a smile on faces?
This time I think we shall be a bit more general and, because it is summer and lots of you will be thinking of going to the beach or abroad on holiday, how about we have creatures from the sea? Many wonderful brightly coloured marine fish, creatures and birds to choose from.
Donate them to local children’s organisations, send them in to Hope & Aid or the Sun for children overseas or at Sibling Together – do a nice big one and raffle it off to help your favourite of our charities maybe? So many fun things you can do with this – stitchers create some lovely quilted blankets, pretty dresses, shorts, trousers, tops using lovely patterned fabrics.
The Sun Knit for Nepal Appeal - NOW CLOSED
The first part of our challenge is to carry on with the Sun knitting challenge – this has a freepost address for sending in the finished items which is great and because they have affiliated the challenge with Loving Hands (fronted by my right hand woman – the lovely Kate Gaunt – who had to be primped and preened for the cameras to be photographed for the paper. As you can see they are helping Operation Orphan –along with Sibling Together and many of our other charities and have already had many thousands of items sent in by reader which is wonderful. You can send in blankets, hats, mitts, jumpers, toys, baby clothes and more to the freepost address below for this wonderful appeal.
