1.) Crochet and Knit - Knit for Nowt – Glove Puppets for Therapy
Knit for Nowt have asked if knitters and crocheters can help them by making hand and finger puppets in adult hand and child hand sizes. These are used for therapy with abused or bereaved children.
They always need a good supply of them, as many Social Workers use them, and the children sometimes get attached to them. Some therapists allow them to be kept afterwards.
No need to contact Knit-for-Nowt to see if they are needed - please just go ahead and knit them. How many? As many as you can!
I know we have asked for Teddy puppets, and this is ongoing for OCC Barton on Humber but hopefully the Knit for Nowt open mouthed puppets will be a change, and they are still a small and portable summer project!
Some pattern links are here, but they can be any type of puppet, let your imagination go! (Please make sure any embellishments are firmly stitched on and not glued into place)
I have this pattern as a pdf file, please pm me if you would like a copy emailing
2.) Knit - Angel Gowns and Wraps
Sadly these are always needed. It can be hard to think about why they are needed very sad in this day and age but by having something pretty for the little angels to be dressed or wrapped in can help the parents to know they are not alone in their sadness.
We have patterns in Pattern Central

And finally – 4). a critter challenge! Dot forwarded the information about the Loch Ness Knitting Festival 29th September to 2nd October 2016, wouldn’t that be fun to go to? They are asking knitters and crocheters to make a Nessie to line up along the shores of Loch Ness, before being put to good use to help worthy causes in the local community.
Quote from the Loch Ness Knit Fest website “We want to make a big splash in the run up to Loch Ness Knit Fest, and nothing makes a bigger splash than Nessie!
With that in mind, and to mark the launch of the first ever Loch Ness Knit Fest, we have teamed up with totally splash-worthy sponsor Loch Ness Water to try something a bit special!
This September will see us attempting to have a record number of your Nessies at Dores Beach, Loch Ness.
Which is where YOU come in… We are appealing to the knitters of the world to help us achieve our goal and assist with our Loch Ness Water Challenge by creating an army of yarny monsters – yes, we need YOU to knit a Nessie!
You can choose any size, shape or pattern you want to knit or crochet a monster for submission (we’ve included links to a few free patterns available online below to help you out) and there is no limit on the age or location of Nessie knitters – in fact there will even be a prize for the submission that travels the furthest to take part in our challenge!
We will also be on the lookout for the best looking Nessie (judges’ decision is final) so feel free to let your imaginations run riot!
Nessie knitters don’t need to be planning to attend Loch Ness Knit Fest to submit a monster (although we’d love it if you could join us!) and we want to encourage knitting groups, youth clubs, schools and other organisations to get involved and start knitting their Nessies NOW!
Our Loch Ness Knitted Challenge is planned for Saturday September 24th when all the submitted Nessies will be displayed on the Loch’s southern shore where they will remain until the end of Loch Ness Knit Fest, after which time the stitched submissions will be used to benefit charities in the Inverness area”
